Etymological Dictionary of Egyptian, Volume 1 : Volume 1: A Phonological Introduction /
:
This is the introductory volume to the first dictionary on the etymological relations between ancient Egyptian and other Afro-Asiatic languages. Gábor Takács' new multi-volume Etymological Dictionary of Egyptian (now to appear at regular intervals of about 12-18 months) will be a hallmark in Egyptian and Afro-Asiatic linguistics. The amount of material offered, the extensive treatment of scholarly discussions on each item, and the insights into the connections of Egyptian with its related Afro-Asiatic languages, including many new lexical parallels, will make it an indispensable tool for comparative and interpretative purposes and the unchallenged starting point for every linguist in the field. Volume 1, the opening volume of the dictionary, can rightly be called the key to the work; it not only provides the users with a comprehensive analysis of the Afro-Asiatic background of the Egyptian consonant system, but also offers a critical appraisal of linguistic theories on Egyptian historical phonology, the problems surrounding the origins of the Egyptian language, and an extensive bibliography to the dictionary volumes to appear.

Ceramique et occupation égyptienne en Canaan au 13e siècle av. J.C. : études de cas de Hazor, Megiddo et Lachish /
:
"This work addresses the question of the Egyptian Hegemony during the 13th century BCE: its nature and its cultural processes, and the analysis of the Egyptian-style pottery in three Canaanite City-States is used to provide the proofs of the Egyptian presence there. The author has chosen the archaeological sites of Hazor, Megiddo and Lachish for a case study. Situated in three different regions of Southern Canaan, these three cities are known to be powerful and rich during the 13th century BCE. The Egyptian pottery of these sites has been identified and classified in a typology with numerous parallels to the Egyptian contemporaneous sites. A fabric analysis has been made from description of a fresh break section taken from each sample studied and, in a few cases completed by a petrographic analysis. All the data are gathered in an electronic database and can be consulted for further studies about this corpus. From the interpretation of the corpus, the author presents a spatial analysis of the Egyptian-Style pottery for each identified building in each site in order to shed light on an Egyptian presence at these cities and to qualify this presence."--Publisher's web site.

The Composition and Tradition of Erimḫuš /
:
With The Composition and Tradition of Erimḫuš Kaira Boddy offers the first comprehensive study of the lexical list Erimḫuš. Boddy gives a detailed analysis of its structure and the ways in which the text and its role in scribal scholarship changed over time. Erimḫuš was highly valued by the Assyrian and Babylonian scholars of the first millennium BCE and several centuries earlier even caught the interest of the Hittites, who had their own ingenious ways of interpreting and using the material. Originally a bilingual list collecting groups of Akkadian words and their Sumerian equivalents, Erimḫuš took on a radically different character in Ḫattuša.

The Ancient Topography of Opountian Lokris /
:
Following on from the author's Ancient Topography of Eastern Phokis (1986) and Topography and Population of Ancient Boiotia (1988) this monograph completes his studies of settlement in antiquity of Eastern Central Greece (excluding Attike and Megaris). The structure of the book is exactly the same as the parallel work on Eastern Phokis: an account of the physical geography (and natural economy) of the area is followed by a detailed catalogue of 22 sites in which location, bibliography, and structural remains are discussed, surface finds and inscriptions are listed, and the possible identifications with ancient names are elaborated; after these presentations of the raw data, analytical sections on settlement development and organisation, on fortifications, and on cults follow. Several appendices treat of connex subjects or list various testimonia, ancient and modern, and the work concludes with indices of ancient texts, placenames and general subjects. See Less
