L'énigme du bonheur : étude sur le sujet du bien dans le livre de Qohélet /

This study deals with the question of happiness in the book of Qoheleth, starting with the contemporary debate among modern writers concerning the status of various encouraging statements that emerge out of a general context in which "all is vanity". The first part of this study describes the current position of research, examining the debated questions. The second part proposes an exegetical and contextual inquiry of the words for happiness, drawn up by these authors. The third part suggests a way of resolving the enigma of happiness, based upon an additional formula of happiness, located at the beginning of the second half of the book. Gradually, a conviction takes shape: happiness does not have the same status in the two parts of the book. If, at first, happiness is presented as the only alternative given by God to help man to hold on when faced with the fleetingness of things in life, it later becomes an art of living, apt to be taught to future generations.

Cet ouvrage montre que la filiation par le nom et l'héritage a, dans le monde arabe et musulman, une autre dimension plus fondamentale sinon fondatrice, la filiation symbolique ou le principe du père.Le conte-cadre met en scène un conflit entre deux frères sur l'origine de la fratrie et, par conséquent, de la filiation: est-elle maternelle ou paternelle? Deux contes montrent que la parole vivante est l'espace où se fonde le principe du père en tant que principe de vie pour le sujet. Dès qu'il y accède, cette parole le délie de la mort, particulièrement celle liée au noeud oedipien (inceste-parricide-infanticide). Enfin, accéder à cette parole n'est pas chose aisée. L'échec vient de l'équivocité de la parole laquelle conduit à la perversion. La réussite repose le plus souvent, non sur l'amour, mais sur le savoir, un savoir incomplet.

In Silence et langage Stephen A. Noble offers a new interpretation of the development of Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology which analyses the central position of language within a philosophy of perception predicated upon the interdependence of seeing and speaking. Beginning with The Structure of Behaviour , and particularly through the work of Goldstein, the study situates the context in which language appears as a dominant theme in Merleau-Ponty's thought within a philosophical debate concerning the living organism which can be traced back to the writings of Kant. Comment prévoir l'inconnu et contrôler l'inattendu ? Les Anciens ont tenté de répondre à ces questions en interprétant des signes dans lesquels il reconnaissaient des messages divins. Ce recueil permet de comparer la diversité de leurs questionnements dans les sociétés polythéistes ou monothéistes de la Méditerranée antique. Il interroge premièrement la construction rituelle des signes au sein des institutions divinatoires ; deuxièmement, des phénomènes naturels spontanés, qui, apparus hors de toute institution, ont néanmoins valeur de présages ou d'avertissements ; troisièmement, l'intentionnalité manifestée à travers l'intervention divine dans l'histoire des peuples ou les vies singulières ; quatrièmement, l'épistémologie des signes dans des élaborations philosophiques ou théologiques qui éclairent la tension entre données oraculaires et contrôle ritualisé des signes, entre données révélées et argumentations raisonnées visant à neutraliser les injonctions du destin. How to foresee the unknown and master the unexpected? Ancient people tried to answer those questions by interpreting signs considered as divine messages. In this volume, the writers compare and examine this manifold questioning in the polytheistic and monotheistic societies of the ancient Mediterranean Sea. In the first place, it is shown how signs were ritually constructed within instituted practice of divination ; second, how, although some spontaneous natural phenomena appeared out of any instituted context, may nevertheless constitute omens or monition ; third, how the gods' intervention may reveal a sort of intention in the course of national history or individual life ; finally, the essays study the epistemology of signs at work in some philosophical or theological elaborations, which may enlighten the tension between oracular evidence and ritual control of signs, and between revealed facts and reasoning arguments intending to neutralize the injunctions of the divine.

La representation du divin dans les récits du Pentateuque : mediations syntaxiques et narratives /

Though several studies have already been devoted to biblical representations of God, the present research considers the position towards the divine they imply, on the basis of syntactic and narrative analysis. The book examines, in the stories of the Pentateuch, different appearances of the divine character: his speeches, as well as their modes of reporting; his actions, their mediations, and the points of view from which they are told; his perceptions and emotions, as well as the so-called omniscient narration; and some interpretations and distortions of his words. It appears that the Pentateuch presents the divine in an essentially mimetic way, mainly from the perspectives of other characters, portraying different human experiences and interpretations of divinity.
