This book proposes an ethnographic approach to popular entrepreneurship based on the experience of the wageless life in Brazil. It starts from the historical premise that self-employment is at the heart of the popular way of life, whose main characteristic is the desire for autonomy. In turn, the global discourse of self-realisation carries a strong attempt at modernisation aimed at young people, but which is also capable of embarrassing older people. From the shopping streets, social entrepreneurship and Pentecostal cults, this process is giving shape to political conflicts that are redrawing the sense of community in São Paulo, the country's largest city. Reading Ḥamūya in dialogue with contemporaries across Central Asia, Iran, and the Eastern Mediterranean, Uy excavates a world in which knowledge was an embodied sensibility: a way of being that could improvise across all dimensions of human experience. Calvin's salvation in writing : a confessional academic theology /

Academic writing is not a neutral medium for conveying truth; its powers and faults must be exposed before theology entrusts its mysteries to the academic text. To that end, William Wright, en route to putting Calvin's Salvation in Writing, institutes a new theological genre, "theography": theology that "confesses" its academic parameters--with both gratitude and repentance. He delineates those parameters by contrasting the philosophical rationales for writing found in Hegel and Derrida. Drawing on their insights into dialectic and difference, Wright sets out Calvin's doctrine of justification and sanctification across a shifting written terrain. Observing Calvin's doctrinal structure thus becomes a path to save academic writing from claiming for itself either too much or too little. Calvin's Salvation in Writing: A Confessional Academic Theology is the philosophically boldest employment of Calvin to date. Through innovatively mining Calvin's theology, William Wright designs a new method of theology that will enliven the field.

Henosis : L'union à Dieu chez Denys L'Aréopagite /

In the first part of this study, the theme of the union ( henosis ) is analysed in Dionysius the Areopagite's De Divinis Nominibus . The starting point of this inquiry is the trinitarian theology of Dionysius. He distinguishes between Union ( henosis ) and distinction ( diakrisis ), ad intra of the divine Persons and ad extra of the divines names, understood as powers. The movement of procession and conversion of the divine names follows the very structure of the treatise: from the Union to the One, a movement called \'the circle of love\'. In a second moment, the word henosis or the formula henosis hyper noun , \'union above the intellect\', are analysed in the De divinis nominibus , where they allude to the \'union without confusion\' of the ideas one with the other, or to the union of intellect with God in the unknowledge. The second part is dedicated to the union with God in the De Mystica Theologia . The author first studies Moses' ascension and his entrance in the Darkness within the tradition of the commentaries of Exodus , such as Philo's or Gregory of Nyssa's treatises De Vita Mosis ; she analyses the progress of negative theology towards the mystical union and she tries to identify the \'unknown God\' with whom the intellect becomes unified in the neoplatonician theory and also in the context of Paul's discourse on the Areopage. She concludes with an examination of the unio mystica and its major features in Pseudo-Dionysius.
