In this volume, the second in the Practice Interpretation series, interpreters from various different situations describe how passages and themes in the book of Acts speak to their 21st-century circumstances. The aim in the words of a contributor is to "link up with some of the stories that belong to our lives today - things that are happening in the newspapers or in the churches, or in our own spiritual lives. to treat them as a springboard to make connections between Luke's world and ours" (Loveday Alexander). However, the core elements of his philosophy are based on non-generic unities. Being is not a genus; it is divided into ten categories or supreme genera. Being serves as the primary concept in metaphysics, also known as first philosophy. Motion, on the other hand, is categorized into four types and is the central concept in physics, or second philosophy. Similarly, the concept of the good can be understood in multiple categories, just like being, and it forms the central idea of practical philosophy. Aristotle must confront the issue of homonymy at the very foundation of his philosophy. The stakes are high, as he believes that it is things, not words, that are homonymous. The book, in the main, discusses issues relating to mission, ecumenism, and theological education and is presented in four sections. The first segment discusses works on ecumenical and theological education and assesses the relevance of the World Council of Churches. Other issues discussed in this segment relate to the interrelationships that exist between academic theology, ecumenism, and Christianity. The World Missionary Conference held in Edinburgh in 1910, which set the agenda for world-wide mission in a promising manner in the 1920s, is also assessed in this section of the work. The second segment, which covers Religion and Public Space, discusses works that examine the relationships between religion and power, religion and development, religion and traditional religious beliefs, and religion and practices in Africa. The third segment of the book treats Religion and Cultural Practices in African and how all these work out in couching out an African theology and African Christianity. Some of the issues discussed in this section related to African traditional philosophy, spiritism, and the interrelationships that exist between African Christianity and African Traditional Religion. The last segment of the book discusses the issue of African biblical hermeneutics and specifically looks at contemporary hermeneutical approaches to biblical interpretations in Africa.

Celebrated today for his groundbreaking work in logic and the foundations of mathematics, Bernard Bolzano (1781-1848) was best known in his own time as a leader of the reform movement in his homeland (Bohemia, then part of the Austrian Empire). As professor of religious science at the Charles University in Prague from 1805 to 1819, Bolzano was a highly visible public intellectual, a courageous and determined critic of abuses in Church and State. Based in large part on a carefully argued utilitarian practical philosophy, he developed a non-violent program for the reform of the authoritarian institutions of the Empire, which he himself set in motion through his teaching and other activities. Rarely has a philosopher had such a great impact on the political culture of his homeland. This volume contains a substantial collection of Bolzano's writings on ethics and politics, translated into English for the first time. It includes a complete translation of the treatise On the Best State , his principal writings on ethics, an essay on the contemporary situation in Ireland, and a selection of his Exhortations, dealing with such topics as enlightenment, civil disobedience, the status of women, anti-Semitism and Czech-German relations in Bohemia.
