Régine Robin (1939-2021) fut une intellectuelle hors norme. Historienne et sociologue, philosophe et romancière, linguiste et traductrice du yiddish, elle est l'anthropologue des non-lieux. Sans cesse, elle explora d'horizons divers, arpentant des territoires novateurs. Riche de ses exils, des « pays de la mort » jusqu'au Québec et New York, Robin creusa des pistes dans ses ruines personnelles, posant les fondations d'une nouvelle écriture de la Shoah, sans jamais céder à L'Immense Fatigue des pierres . Son œuvre protéiforme, chantier à vif resté inachevé, est traversée de problématiques identitaires, à la lisière de la déconstruction et en dialogue avec les arts et pratiques mémorielles. Précurseure aussi de l'ère digitale, son "work in progress" est source d'inspiration pour ses contemporains. Régine Robin (1939-2021) was an extraordinary intellectual. A historian and sociologist, philosopher and novelist, linguist and translator of Yiddish, she was the anthropologist of non-places. Continuously, she explored diverse horizons, navigating innovative territories. Enriched by her exiles, from the "lands of death" to Quebec and New York, Robin delved into paths within her personal ruins, laying the foundations for a new writing of the Shoah, without ever yielding to L'Immense Fatigue des pierres . . Her multifaceted work, an unfinished raw project, is imbued with identity issues, on the edge of deconstruction, and in dialogue with the arts and memory practices. A forerunner of the digital age, her "work in progress" continues to inspire her contemporaries.

Mester de clerecía is the term traditionally used to designate the first generations of learned poetry in medieval Ibero-Romance dialects (the precursors of modern Castilian and other Romance languages of the Iberian Peninsula). In its time, this poetry was anything but traditional. This project attempts to listen to voices that have seldom been heard. While others have explored Paul's theology of Christian freedom, they have not considered how Paul's declaration of freedom would have been received by those who most desired and valued freedom: the slaves and freedpersons in the Galatian churches. In this study, Robin Thompson explores both Greek and Roman manumission, considers how the ancient Mediterranean world conceived of freedom, and then examines the freedom declared in Galatians from a freed slaves's perspective. She proposes that these freedpersons would likely have perceived this freedom to be not only spiritual freedom, but - at least in the Christian communities - individual freedom as well.

Elitism and the Approach to God investigates a historical and cultural dichotomy in European history which has not hitherto been satisfactorily explained Why did so many of the most influential "authorities" of the age insist that the nature and mystery of the divine and of God should not be shared with "the vulgar crowd", that is with the ordinary people, although this appears to be the principal purpose of all other religious teaching throughout the period? Robin Raybould gives examples from the works of more than sixty "authorities" who insisted that the mysteries of the divine should remain secret. He then surveys the attempts of other religious and civic leaders, both pagan and Christian, to investigate, understand and by contrast to share their findings on the nature of God. In a final section he attempts to reconcile these opposing views.

One of the most important students of Franz Brentano was Anton Marty, who made it his task to develop a philosophy of language on the basis of Brentano's analysis of mind. It is most unfortunate that Marty does not receive the attention he deserves, primarily due to his detailed and distracting polemics. In the analysis presented here his philosophy of language and other aspects of his thought, such as his ontology (which ultimately diverges from Brentano's), are examined first and foremost in their positive rather than critical character. The analysis is moreover supplemented by translations of four important works by Marty, including his entire work On the Origin of Language . These are in fact the first English translations of any substantial writings by him. The resulting picture that emerges from the analysis and translations is that Marty has much to say that proves to be of enduring interest for the philosophy of language on a range of topics, especially the meanings of statements, of emotive expressions, and of names as regards both their communicative and their ontological aspects. The volume will be of interest not only to philosophers and historians of philosophy, but also to historians of linguistics and psychology.

Concept and Judgment in Brentano's Logic Lectures is concerned with a crucial aspect of Brentano's philosophy as it was developed in his logic lectures from c. 1870 to c. 1885. The first part of the volume is an analysis of his theory of concept and judgment. The second part consists of materials, including a German edition and English translation of notes that a student took from a lecture course that Brentano gave. A short book by this student on Brentano is also translated in the materials. The access to Brentano's philosophy is enhanced by this volume not only with regard to his logic as a theory of deductive inference, but also to his descriptive psychology, metaphysics, and philosophy of language.

There are substantial notes on the commentary, which assist the reader to understand the context of Olympiodorus' Platonism, the choices available to him as an interpreter, and the special characteristics of his interpretation. A full introduction tackles the issues of greatest interest that arise from the work, including the author's mission as a Hellenist resisting Christian attacks on his discipline.
