The Aramaic Dead Sea Scrolls represent roughly 13% of the Qumran library and correspond to a wide range of genres and topics. This book consists of the proceedings of a conference on the Aramaic scrolls from Qumran which took place in Aix-en-Provence in 2008. It includes both the papers themselves and a transcription of the discussions. The 22 papers tackle linguistic, exegetical and historical questions, focusing in particular on: the relation of the Aramaic texts to what we know as the Hebrew Bible; their literary genres; the question of their sectarian or non-sectarian provenance; the character of the corpus, and specifically its relevance to the development of apocalypticism and messianism in the Jewish tradition.

Des dynamiques qui se déploient en termes généalogiques, initiatiques et en des capacités socialement reconnues de susciter une communication avec le monde surnaturel. L'analyse centrée sur la confrontation entre saints et rois permet, par ailleurs, d'élargir à la dimension nationale, et au-delà, le rapport, hiérarchique, de conflit et d'articulation entre charisme personnel et charisme sharifien. Le mythe et ses expressions rituelles ouvrent, ainsi, les possibilités du renouvellement sociopolitique par les marges, voire même, dans l'actualité, sous couleur d'une révolution à l'horizon d'un millénarisme du califat. In Morocco, the founding myths of healing cults and rituals illustrate conclusively the elaboration of the symbolism and dynamics of power, both in local and national contexts. These dynamics unfold specifically in terms of genealogical representations and mystical initiations, as well as in socially-recognized capacities to communicate with the supernatural. The analysis centered on the confrontation of saints and kings permits the expansion, to the national level and beyond, of the hierarchical tensions between personal charisma and sharifian charisma. Thus, the myth and its ritual expressions open up possibilities for socio-political renewal by the margins, or even more a renewal, taking place presently, in the form of a revolutionary millenarianism.

"La peinture de l'Égypte ancienne est essentiellement une peinture murale funéraire. C'est à Thèbes, l'actuelle Louqsor, qu'elle connut son plus grand développement, vers 1539-1077 av. J.-C. (Nouvel Empire) et c'est uniquement de cette peinture-là, plus exactement celle qui orne les tombeaux de particuliers, non les hypogées de la Vallée des Rois et de la Vallée des Reines, qu'il est question ici. L'objectif principal de Nadine Cherpion est l'étude du style dans les tombes thébaines. Par style, on entend aussi bien la dominante de couleurs d'un monument que la courbure d'une perruque ou la longueur d'une chute de reins. C'est ce qui fait 'l'esprit' d'une époque, voire d'un règne. Les études sur le style dans la peinture égyptienne sont peu nombreuses et souvent épuisées ou partielles (Wegner 1933, Mekhitarian 1954, Hofmann 2004). D'autre part, un sujet aussi subtil que le style peut sans difficulté être repris à intervalles réguliers avec un regard neuf. Quittant volontiers les frontières de l'égyptologie, l'auteur replace la peinture thébaine dans le cadre de l'histoire universelle de la peinture, ce qui constitue l'un des aspects novateurs de son propos, tout comme la remise à plat de la datation. Bien plus qu'une compilation, ce livre est un travail de synthèse original, réalisé en grande partie sur le terrain. Il est illustré de nombreuses photographies prises, pour la plupart, par J.-Fr. Gout à la demande de l'auteur et souvent inédites. L'histoire du style proprement dite est précédée de quelques pistes de réflexion sur le sens et la lecture des images égyptiennes. "Cet ouvrage constitue la synthèse de la recherche sur la statuaire royale de la XIXe dynastie dont le catalogue a paru en ligne en 2018. Le présent volume regroupe les résultats des observations sur les statues réparties par types. Un premier chapitre expose le nombre de statues par règne et la fréquence des types auxquels elles correspondent, y compris les statues remployées sous la XIXe dynastie et celles qui lui sont attribuées. Les chapitres suivants condensent l'évolution des types de statues en suivant celle de leurs costumes, coiffures et attributs, leur fréquence dans les groupes statuaires, mais aussi des représentations en deux dimensions de ces statues et leurs parallèles dans des scènes rituelles. L'examen mené permet d'établir la place qu'occupe chaque type de statue dans un temple et donne lieu à un essai d'interprétation de sa fonction dans l'ensemble du mobilier du temple. Il se poursuit par une synthèse des provenances, dimensions, matériaux et techniques, une autre consacrée à l'accoutrement et, enfin, une présentation récapitulative du style et de l'iconographie, assortie de notices sur les critères de datation. This publication is a synthesis of research on the royal statuarv of the Nineteenth Dynasty. It accompanies the catalogue of these statues that appeared on line in 2019.The present volume contains the results of observations on the royal statues, which are presented by type. The first chapter presents the statues by reign and by the types of statues within each reign, including statues reused by kings of the Nineteenth Dynasty as well as ones attributed to them.The succeeding chapters follow the evolution of statue types alongside the development of costume, coiffure and attributes. The frequency of these features in group statues and in two dimensional representations as well as their parallels in ritual scenes are also studied. The investigation defines the position of each type of statue in the temple and ends with an attempt to understand the rote of each statue type within the temple furniture. The next chapters deal with provenances, dimensions, materials, and techniques of the statues, followed by those on the accessories, and finally the style and the iconography are discussed, accompanied by comments on dating criteria. La légende d'Alexandre le Grand dans la littérature française du 12e siècle : Une réécriture permanente /

L'aventure extraordinaire d'Alexandre a fait de lui un héros hors du commun dont les échos ont rencontré des interprétations bienveillantes et enthousiastes aussi bien que des commentaires franchement négatifs. Pour les uns Alexandre était le roi modèle que les princes de ce monde feraient bien d'imiter: tout succès serait alors garanti. Pour les autres le comportement du jeune roi constituait un anti-exemple: son arrogance, son hybris étaient inacceptables, voire pernicieux. Chaque société réceptrice a ainsi récrit l'aventure dans la perspective qu'elle a jugée fonctionnelle. Le travail que voici présente pour la première fois l'évolution des réécritures consacrées à Alexandre le Grand dans la littérature française du 12e siècle depuis le texte d'Albéric (début du siècle) jusqu'au Vengement Alixandre de Gui de Cambrai (vers 1191). Entre ces deux textes-là on trouve l' Alexandre décasyllabique , le Fuerre de Gadres mis sur le compte d'un certain Eustache, l' Alexandre en Orient de Lambert le Tort, la Mort Alixandre , les versions conservées par les manuscrits Arsenal et Venise, le Roman de toute Chevalerie attribué à Thomas de Kent, la Venjance Alixandre de Jehan le Nevelon ainsi que le grand Roman d'Alexandre , terminé vers 1184/5, par Alexandre de Bernai dit de Paris, où Alexandre est vraiment le roi modèle. Ce dernier texte se distingue d'ailleurs non seulement des autres réécritures en territoire français de par sa solide charpente organisatrice (son compilateur l'a voulu example fonctionnel), mais aussi de par le fait qu'il est le seul à avoir occasionné de nombreuses suites et interpolations,- parmi lesquelles, entre autres, les fameux Vœux du Paon de Jacques de Longuy-on (1313/4). La compilation d'Alexandre de Bernai dit de Paris est devenue, et ce à juste titre, la vulgate de la tradition française. We constantly refer to counterfactual events-things that didn't happen but could have-through conditional, wish, and modal constructions. Yet, despite their ubiquity, we still know surprisingly little about how these constructions have evolved across languages and through history. This book breaks new ground by tracing, for the first time, the development of counterfactual systems across different constructions, texts, linguistic registers, and historical stages. Drawing on extensive corpus data from Indo-European languages and nearly three millennia of Greek, it offers the first unified account of counterfactual and avertive constructions as core expressions of non-realization. In doing so, it also proposes a revised model of the counterfactual life cycle-one that integrates semantic, morphosyntactic, and pragmatic dimensions-providing typologists with a powerful framework for exploring how counterfactual expressions evolve across languages.

"17 novembre 1869 : le canal de Suez est inauguré en grandes pompes, en présence de l'impératrice Eugénie. Mais la construction du canal, débutée en 1859, ne s'est pas faite sans heurts. Ferdinand de Lesseps et la France ont en effet bataillé durant de longues décennies avant de convaincre l'Empire ottoman, dont l'Égypte n'était qu'une province, de son bien-fondé. Accusée d'être un instrument de colonisation de l'Égypte au profit de la France, la Compagnie universelle du canal de Suez, "État dans l'État", est très critiquée par l'Empire ottoman. Celui-ci craint qu'un canal maritime séparant matériellement l'Égypte du reste de l'Empire rende illusoire la souveraineté du sultan sur ce territoire, et ouvre la porte à une domination occidentale inacceptable. Cet ouvrage ne propose pas une énième histoire du canal de Suez ni sur le plan technique, ni sur le plan diplomatique, mais il entend combler une lacune considérable : l'étude de cette histoire du point de vue ottoman, des projets à l'exploitation en passant par la construction du canal. This volume publishes the content of 133 charters of Saint Louis, issued in the East during his first crusade. They come from the Latin manuscript 9778 of the National Library of France, which went overseas with the monarch. These documents from 1248 to 1254 shed light on the operation of the royal household in the Levant. In particular, they highlight two prosperous periods in 1250 and 1252, which saw the king granting a series of privileges from Acre and Caesarea of Palestine, and allow us to follow the early careers of new men coming from the Holy Land and France. Ce volume publie le texte de 133 chartes de saint Louis, émises en Orient durant sa première croisade. Elles émanent du manuscrit latin 9778 de la Bibliothèque nationale de France, qui accompagna le monarque outre-mer.
