Intertextualität als Konstruktionsprinzip : Transformationen des Kriminalromans und des romantischen Romans bei Peter Handke und Botho Strauß /

Die ironisch-spielerische Neuverwendung von populären Gattungen und tradierten Darstellungsweisen stellt ein bemerkenswertes Phänomen heutiger Literatur dar. Die vorliegende Arbeit analysiert diese Form von Intertextualität in Prosawerken von Peter Handke und Botho Strauß und führt damit differente Spielarten solcher Gattungs-Transformation vor. Beide Autoren - die hier erstmals unter diesem erzähltechnischen Aspekt zusammengebracht werden - verwenden zur Konstruktion ihrer Texte 'vorgefertigte' Erzählmodelle: den Kriminalroman und den romantischen Roman. Die Untersuchung zeigt, wie Handke und Strauß deren Bauelemente neuartig einsetzen und so innovative Erzählformen schaffen. Wie in Handkes Krimi-Transformationen die Rätsel unaufgeklärt bleiben und sich das 'looking for clues' mit der Thematik von Zeichendeutung verbindet, wird in den Analysen dargelegt. In Der Hausierer, Die Angst des Tormanns beim Elfmeter und Der kurze Brief zum langen Abschied zeigt sich dabei eine Entwicklungslinie. Darüber hinaus stellt sich Die Stunde der wahren Empfindung durch den Befund einer Transgression des Krimi-Modells als Scharnierwerk im Oeuvre dar. Die Erarbeitung der vielfältigen Romantik-Bezüge in Strauß' Der junge Mann enthüllt, wie die prätextuellen Themen und Motive mit ironischer Distanz verwendet werden. Romantische Reflexionsstrukturen werden radikalisiert und in andere Funktionszusammenhänge gestellt. Abschließend werden die nachgewiesenen intertextuellen Konstruktionsprinzipien im Kontext postmoderner Literatur betrachtet.

Heirs to the Punic and Berber traditions, the North Africans, once conquered by the Romans and willing to show respect for their new masters' gods, did not want to forsake their beloved ancestral deities and solved this dilemma by giving Roman names to their traditional gods, who nevertheless kept most of their former natures. This phenomenon, known as interpretatio romana, resulted in an interpenetration of both religious universes, each being enriched in the process. Roman African gods thus conceal dual personalities within themselves, which this book tries to investigate through all available sources (epigraphy, literature, numismatic and archaeology), unveiling many unsuspected aspects of great deities like Saturn/Baal Hammon, Astarte/Venus or Mercury/Baal Addir. If those gods of Roman Africa have inspired many individual studies, there was still a need for a book examining them all together within their interrelations. In 30 BCE, Egypt became a province of the Roman empire. Alongside unbroken traditions-especially of the indigenous Egyptian population, but also among the Greek elite-major changes and slow processes of transformation can be observed. The multi-ethnical population was situated between new patterns of rule and traditional lifeways. This tension between change and permanence was investigated during the conference. The last decades have seen an increase in the interest in Roman Egypt with new research from different disciplines-Egyptology, Ancient History, Classical Archaeology, Epigraphy, and Papyrology-providing new insights into the written and archaeological sources, especially into settlement archaeology. Well-known scholars analysed the Egyptian temples, the structure and development of the administration beside archaeological, papyrological, art-historical and cult related questions.

Le Corps dans le roman des écrivaines syriennes contemporaines , de Martina Censi, explore les représentations du corps dans un corpus de romans en arabe publiés (entre 2004 et 2011) par six écrivaines syriennes. L'auteure conjugue l'analyse du texte littéraire avec la critique féministe et les études de genre. Par cette approche interdisciplinaire, Censi démontre que l'attention reservée par ces écrivaines aux représentations du corps féminin et masculin témoigne de leurs engagements dans la lutte pour l'émancipation des femmes, mais aussi, et surtout, dans celle pour l'affirmation de l'individu dans la société syrienne contemporaine. Les corps des personnages, marqués par leur différence unique, sont le lieu symbolique de la négociation entre les instances individuelles et collectives. In Le Corps dans le roman des écrivaines syriennes contemporaines , Martina Censi explores the representation of the body in a selection of Arabic novels published (between 2004 and 2011) by six Syrian women authors. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, which combines analysis of the literary texts with Feminist Criticism and Gender Studies, Censi demonstrates that, by focusing on the representation of female and male bodies, these novelists deal not only with feminist issues related to women's emancipation. The author reveals that they also engage in a broader analysis concerning the status of the individual in contemporary Syrian society. Marked by their unique difference, the characters' bodies become the symbolic location for the negotiation between individual and collective claims.

It is largely thanks to Zvi Yavetz that the Roman plebs has become "Salonfähig". In numerous important studies Yavetz has focused his - and our - attention on the problem of the relationship between the ruler and the masses of the ruled. Thus, it seemed natural to choose various aspects of this relationship as the topic of a volume in his honour. Les lieux communs du roman : stéréotypes grecs d'aventure et d'amour /

The author uses an extensive study of the five Greek novels preserved by tradition since Roman times (Chariton, Chaireas and Callirhoe , Longus, Daphnis and Chloe , Xenophon of Ephesus, Ephesiaca , Achilles Tatius, Leucippe and Clitophon , Heliodorus, Ethiopica ) to show how the novel form, from its origins, has been based upon the repetition of commonplaces, τόποι, which allows an interplay with the reader. The commonest of these commonplaces, love-Eros, provides the plot of the five novels, in an order which is itself topical: meeting and love at first sight, wounds of love and lovesickness, lovers separated, lovers put to the test by the sea and by pirates, lovers reunited. The heroes of Greek novels, always young, good-looking and well-born (even if their identities are left unclear), allow for easy reader identification. From Xenophon of Ephesus (the most primitive form of the novel) to the Ethiopica (a true work of art), the Greek novel had already explored all the main narrative possibilities of the genre.

Integration in the empire under the political control of the city of Rome, her princeps, and the different authorities in the provinces and cities includes processes of inclusion and exclusion. These multifaceted processes take place at various levels in society and at different places, over a long period of time. Juridical, political, social and religious points of view are articulated, elaborating on epigraphic, literary, juridical and numismatic evidence.
