Emphasis is placed on the explanations of peculiarities of grammar and idiom, but due attention is paid to figures of style and problems of poetic structure. This documentation, which includes a critical examination of other views, has been made more easily accessible by detailed indexes. Entrenched in the myth of being victim of the Nazi aggression, Austrian elites pursued a politics of memory that symbolically shook off any responsibility for the emergence, development and consequences of National Socialism. Authors of the vast majority of films produced early after 1945 were not interested in dealing with the recent Nazi past of their country. There were, however, exceptions. Through detailed analysis of the narratives, stylistic patterns and reception of films that were set during or immediately after World War II, this book explains how cinema corroborated Austrian national self-stereotypes, at the same time offering a critique of the Nazi regime.

This book focuses on iconoclastic controversies and, in particular, their impact on the creation of religious identities. In the history of Jewish, Christian and Muslim culture, religious identity was not only formed through historical claims, but also through the use of certain images: 'images of God', 'images of the others', and 'images of the self.' Moreover, in the struggle for religious identity these 'images' were time and again employed for the purpose of establishing distinct groups, both ortho- dox and deviant. At the same time, they supplied weapons in the theological debate and found explicit expression in certain rituals or liturgical traditions. It is a unique record of the dialect based on interviews with the surviving older generation of the community. Volume two contains an extensive glossary of the lexicon of the dialect with illustrations of various aspects of the material culture. The Sinai New Finds of 1975 unearthed Codex Sinaiticus Arabicus which preserves an Arabic translation of the Gospels differing markedly from the Majority Text. Here Robert Turnbull undertakes a wide-ranging study of this version, discovering many lectionary manuscripts with the same text. Several open-access datasets are made available. Bayesian phylogenetics and other computational techniques are used to draw insights into the transmission history of this version and its place in the wider New Testament textual tradition.
