India in ancient times has encountered many foreign travelers and invaders. Shakas, Kushanas, Greeks, Persians, Huns, and Indo-Romans had conquered parts of India. Many Greek chronicle writers had written about the description of India. However, the Chinese Buddhist monks had a unique experience with India. Several Chinese travelers came to India, most of whom were Buddhist monks. One of them was Hiuen-Tsiang (c. ad 602-664), who visited India during the reign of Harshavardhana. He wrote extensive pieces of literature on Buddhism and India in Chinese and studied under various Buddhist monks in India. This book covers the biography of the Chinese Buddhist monk along with his accounts written by I-Tsing. Divided into five chapters, it covers his nativity at Chenliu, and his parentage, his stay at Kau-Chang. The book covers his interactions with the Turkic tribes at Khotan, experiences in Central Asia, and other parts of Xinjiang province. His epic visit to India has been described in a detailed manner, where he stayed at Kie-jo-kio-she, known as Kannauj, visited places associated with Buddha such as Kapilavastu, Bodh Gaya, etc., and also world famous Nalanda University. The book also covers his interactions and training under various Buddhist monks cum scholars, his visit to Ujjain and Sindh region, and his visit to Bamiyan and other sites in the Hindu Kush region. This book ends with his final years at Kauchang and his demise from the world.

Direct speech appears on nearly every page of the Hebrew Bible, and the large number of publications on direct discourse in the Bible highlights the importance of the subject for biblical studies. However, thus far only isolated aspects of the various problems that direct discourse presents have received attention. Studies of individual verbs introducing direct discourse, such as \'answer\', \'speak\', \'say\', and others are necessarily atomistic, even though appropriate in their own right. Other markers of direct discourse, such as \'Thus said Yahweh\', or \'oracle of Yahweh\', tend to be treated as theological constructs isolated from the larger issues of direct discourse marking in general. Speaking of Speaking aims to enrich the reading of the biblical text by offering a coordinated analysis of all such markers, not only in order to consolidate a considerable body of work that is often overlooked by scholars, but also to move further toward a synthesis that can permit informed generalizations not possible at the present time. The trouble with Kings : the composition of the book of Kings in the Deuteronomistic history /

This book investigates the composition of the book of Kings and its implications for the Deuteronomistic History ( DH ) of which it is a part. McKenzie analyses Kings on the basis of Noth's model of a single author/editor behind the original DH . He contends that the Deuteronomist ( Dtr ) wrote the series of oracles against the Northern royal houses without utilizing a prior, running prophetic document that some scholars have posited behind Samuel and Kings. He regards many other prophetic stories in Kings, including most of the Elijah and Elisha legends as later additions to the DH , in accord with Noth's recognition that the original DH was frequently supplemented by various writers. McKenzie illustrates Dtr 's compositional techniques in a treatment of the accounts of Hezekiah and Josiah in Kings. He tentatively dates Dtr to Josiah's reign but believes that tensions among the many later additions to the work, including the report from Josiah's death on, suggest that they are not the result of systematic editing (e.g., Dtr 2). The book offers the most up-to-date survey of research on the DH and the most recent detailed analysis of the lengthy variant version of Jeroboam's reign in LXXB at 1 Kings 12:24a-z. It offers a fresh perspective on the original shape of the DH based on recent scholarship and the author's own critical investigation.

The essays document Van Dijk-Hemmes' development and show how her work relates to contemporary developments in feminist thinking. Fokkelien van Dijk-Hemmes taught Women's Studies and Old Testament at the University of Utrecht.
