Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht den Gebrauch zentraler philosophischer Begriffe in den christologischen Schriften Yaḥyā b. ʿAdīs, nämlich "das Eine", "Substanz", "Körper", "Seele" und "Intellekt", im Kontext von Yaḥyās Gesamtwerk und seiner Quellen. Die Analyse verortet Yaḥyās philosophisches und theologisches Denken an der Schnittstelle mehrerer griechischer, syrischer und arabischer intellektueller Traditionen. Mit ihrem Fokus auf Yaḥyās Schriften über die Inkarnation ergänzt diese Studie vorhandene Forschung, die sich vor allem auf seine Werke über die Trinität konzentriert hat, und trägt zu einem vollständigeren Bild von Yaḥyās philosophischer Theologie bei. This study examines the usage of central philosophical terms in Yaḥyā b. ʿAdī's Christological writings, specifically "the one", "substance", "body", "soul", and "intellect", in the context of Yaḥyā's entire body of work and of his sources. The analysis situates Yaḥyā's philosophical and theological thinking at the crossroads of multiple Greek, Syriac, and Arabic intellectual traditions. With its focus on Yaḥyā's writings about the Incanation, it supplements existing research, which has largely focused on his writings about the Trinity, and contributes to a more complete picture of Yaḥyā's philosophical theology. This book presents 17 articles by Woldemar Görler, published during the last 25 years, some of them not easily accessible hitherto. Most of them treat details of the history of the Hellenistic Academy and Cicero. Other papers explore the aftermath of Hellenistic thought in Lucilius, Lucretius, and Seneca, the literary form of Roman philosophical treatises, and Cicero's personal interpretation of Academic scepticism. All contributions are based on close reading of the source material. No attempt is made to harmonize conflicting evidence. Instead, different stages of the school discussions and some gradual changes in philosophical doctrine emerge more clearly. Special attention is paid to the conversion of Greek terms into Latin, in some cases implying unexpected consequences in meaning.

This book is the first attempt at a critical edition of selected works and letters by Maximilian Beck-the "forgotten phenomenologist". Maximilian, or Max, Beck was one of the representatives of the early phenomenological tradition and in particular of the so-called "Munich" phenomenological circle. In the introductory chapter, Daniele De Santis presents his life, his most important publications and the general character of his philosophy. Beck supported a strong objectivism in ontology and theory of ideas and advocated a radical form of "naïve realism" in the theory of knowledge. He was the author of the first long, critical discussion of Heidegger's Being and Time and a radical critic of all forms of transcendentalism and idealism, especially those of Husserl and Heidegger. Dieses Buch ist der erste Versuch einer textkritischen Ausgabe ausgewählter Werke und Briefe von Maximilian Beck-dem "vergessenen Phänomenologen". Maximilian, oder Max, Beck war einer der Vertreter der frühen phänomenologischen Tradition und insbesondere des sogenannten "Münchner" Phänomenologiekreises. In der Einleitung stellt Daniele De Santis sein Leben, seine Veröffentlichungen und den allgemeinen Charakter seiner Philosophie vor. Beck unterstützte einen starken Objektivismus in der Ontologie und Ideentheorie und vertrat einen "naïven Realismus" in der Erkenntnistheorie. It is divided into twelve parts, beginning with Tübingen where his career began in 1968, and ending with Retrospects and Postscripts for the future, with the thematic complexes Islam and its first options and Muʿtazila as centre pieces. All parts are introduced by brief accounts of the historical context in which each of the assembled texts was written and which course subsequent scholarship may have taken.

The introduction presents both a concise biography of Gomperz and a careful discussion of his work on the Herculanean Papyri of Epicurus and Philodemus. Gomperz's essays, reprinted for the first time, are collected here in a photomechanical reprint and furnished with a new pagination. To respect the historical character of the collection no updating of the articles has been attempted. An Index of the Herculanean Papyri and a Concordance complete the book. Der Gedanke, eine Auswahl der Herculanensia minora von Theodor Gomperz, wenn auch als fotomechanischen Nachdruck, wieder vorzulegen, enstand sowohl aus dem Wunsch, diese Publikationen wieder zugänglich zu machen, als auch besonders aus dem Willen, bei dieser Gelegenheit dem Gelehrten, der sich ununterbrochen Zeit seines Lebens mit schöpferischem und unermündlichem Eifer den herkulanensichen Papyri gewidmet hat, die gebührende Anerkennung zukommen zu lassen. Unter den vielen herkulanischen Schriften von Gomperz wurde eine notwendige Auswahl vorgenommen.
