Les << Magasins nord >> de Thoutmosis III sont un ensemble de huit salles accessibles par le couloir périmétral de l'enceinte en grès du temple d'Amon-Rê à Karnak. Bâties par Thoutmosis III pendant son règne autonome après la disparition de la reine Hatchepsout, ces salles forment un complexe à l'accès restreint qui a subi plusieurs transformations architecturales dont les plus remarquables sont la modification de son accès ouest au cours du règne même de Thoutmosis III et la décoration d'une des salles du complexe par Ptolémée XI Sôter II près de quatorze siècles après sa construction. Cet ensemble entretient des liens étroits avec les autres structures du règne de Thoutmosis III dont l'Akh-menou, nouveau cœur cultuel du temple d'Amon-Rê, mais aussi avec les zones d'accès et le centre du temple de Karnak. Ce volume livre pour la première fois l'ensemble de la matière épigraphique, en grande partie inédite, de ce secteur (fac-similés, textes hiéroglyphiques en ligne et traduction commentée) ainsi qu'une couverture photographique complète, réalisée après l'achèvement, en 2016, d'un important programme de restauration et de conservation.
The "Northern Storerooms" of Thutmosis III are a set of eight chambers accessible through the corridor within the sandstone enclosure of the Temple of Amun-Re at Karnak. Built by Thutmosis III during his autonomous reign after the death of Queen Hatshepsut, these chambers form a complex with restricted access that underwent several architectural transformations. Among the most remarkable are the modification of its western entrance during Thutmosis III's own reign and the decoration of one of the chambers by Ptolemy XI Soter II, nearly fourteen centuries after its construction. This complex maintains close connections with other structures from the reign of Thutmosis III, including the Akh-menu, the new cultic center of the Temple of Amun-Re, as well as the access areas and the central part of the Karnak Temple. This volume presents, for the first time, all of the epigraphic material, largely unpublished, from this sector (including facsimiles, hieroglyphic texts, and translations), along with complete photographic coverage, undertaken after the completion of a major restoration and conservation programme in 2016.

Death Rituals, Ideology, and the Development of Early Mesopotamian Kingship : Toward a New Understanding of Iraq's Royal Cemetery of Ur /

At the beginning of Mesopotamia's Early Dynastic period, the political landscape was dominated by temple administrators, but by the end of the period, rulers whose titles we translate as "king" assumed control. This book argues that the ritual process of mourning, burying, and venerating dead elites contributed to this change. Part one introduces the rationale for seeing rituals as a means of giving material form to ideology and, hence, structuring overall power relations. Part two presents archaeological and textual evidence for the death rituals. Part three interprets symbolic objects found in the Royal Cemetery of Ur, showing they reflect ideological doctrines promoting the office of kingship. This book will be particularly useful for scholars of Mesopotamian archaeology and history.

The studies in this collection deal with a variety of subjects. Their focus is the Roman Empire in the East, the Roman army, Judaea in the Roman period, and Jewish history. Inscriptions are published in them and literary sources discussed. First, Judaea in the period before the arrival of the Romans as well as under Roman rule forms the centre of attention. Here, articles on specific documents are presented and historical problems discussed ranging from the Seleucid period to the Later Roman Empire. The second part of the book contains studies of the wider area and the third part is concerned with the Roman army, its organisation and aims in the Frontier areas. Rewriting Generations of Truth takes the text and manuscript evidence of Words of Qahat (4Q542*) as a vantage point to assess editorial methods and textual classification of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Van der Schoor argues for a different distribution of 4Q542 and 4Q547 fragments, employing the resulting manuscript to consider writing and correction practices in scribal communities behind the Scrolls. Based on terminological similarities, she correlates textual traditions beyond linguistic boundaries and alleged provenance. Contextualising Words of Qahat within the Second Temple Period, particularly 4QApocalypse of Weeks, 4QTime of Righteousness and 4QLevi Apocryphon, highlights sapiential and eschatological elements in Words of Qahat.
