Moving in the Margins: Desert Travel and Power in Medieval Central Asia /
:
Central Asia has been perceived as a landscape of connections, of Silk Roads; an endless plain across which waves of conquerors swiftly rode on horseback. In reality the region is highly fragmented and difficult to traverse, and overcoming these obstacles led to routes becoming associated with epic travel and high-value trade. Put simply, the inhabitants of these lands became experts in the art of travelling the margins. This volume seeks to unravel some of the myths of long-distance roads in Central Asia, using a desert case-study to put forward a new hypothesis for how medieval landscapes were controlled and manipulated.

Everlasting Flowers between the Pages : The Making of Seventeenth-Century Florilegia /
:
A florilegium is a picture book filled with many species and varieties of flowers that were widely desired for seventeenth-century European gardens. While many aspects of florilegia seem simple and unimportant from our modern perspective, they grow in complexity and significance when placed into their historical contexts. This colourfully illustrated volume offers new insights into how florilegia functioned as material objects that highlighted and showcased many forms of knowledge, thereby revealing the expertise which the gardeners, compilers, and image-makers must have possessed in order to cultivate the once-living specimens and immortalise the flowers on paper and parchment.

Spiritual mapping in the United States and Argentina, 1989-2005 : a geography of fear /
:
Spiritual Mapping is a U.S. Evangelical and Neo-Pentecostal movement (1989-2005), which developed its own religious technique to wage a 'spiritual' war against unseen non-human beings. These 'spirits' were identified along the lines of geographical territories and put on a map, whence 'Spiritual Mapping' . Its intended function was to boost the numerical growth of Christianity. This book offers a comprehensive historical-descriptive approach of both the movement and the concept, with special attention for theological and anthropological concepts. Its historical roots, relation with Argentina, self-understanding and critics are being described. The reader is presented with a unique insight into Spiritual Mapping as an expression of Americanism, as well as the socio-political concept of Manifest Destiny and U.S. religious marketing.
