This book offers a unique dataset of the 1947 household register of the Wudu County (Gansu Province) in China. It also includes preliminary analyses of occupation, education, marriage, and the distribution of wealth in the villages of Wudu. These analyses, based on the available population register data, are not only of importance as they have never been published before, but also because they reveal various socio-economic features of villagers' lives on the individual level. They thus enable readers of this book to ask innovative questions and address them, contributing to the literature on the historical development of Chinese demography. This book draws attention to the patriarchal mandates placed upon women during the 1960s. The author explores the combined impact which media and maternal influences had upon her adolescent identity development inclusive of anorexia. This volume includes two distinct parts: Part 1 ("She Speaks") the author's pre-adolescent memoir, and Part 2 ("They Speak") an exploration of historical, psychological, and social identity influencers as well as an arts-based workshop designed to empower adolescent girls. Deconstructing Dinosaurs takes a fresh look at the history of the German Tendaguru Expedition (1909-1913), using recently uncovered sources to reveal how Berlin's Natural History Museum appropriated and extracted 225 tonnes of dinosaur fossils from land belonging to modern-day Tanzania. It examines the colonial conditions under which the area's inhabitants located, excavated, and prepared the finds and carried them out of the country's interior to the coast. Once in Berlin, the fossils were transformed into valuable scientific assets and prize exhibits, foremost among them Giraffatitan brancai . This specimen, a prominent subject of provenance and restitution debates, is used to explore the colonial legacy of natural history collections and the social and political responsibilities of the museums that hold them.

Of all the Issues on the East-West agenda, none is more vital to the perestroika processes on the international plane than confidence on all sides that international legal obligations assumed will be wholly complied with. Increasingly such confidence requires particular often intrusive, machinery to ensure compliance to the satisfaction of the parties concerned. The revolution under perestroika is that, in East-West relations, the former protagnosts now accept that machinery is required, and the deliberations have moved onto the level of why, how much, and how it can best be accomplished.
