520 |a This book departs from the position that research on education reform in Latin America does not go far enough when it comes to considering the origins and limitations that are at the heart of the State itself. While it is valuable to portray contemporary political processes, it is just as important to make visible the characteristics and limits of the underlying (State) foundation(s) through which and upon which reforms are introduced. In doing so, this book not only helps to shed light on the reasons for policy success or failure but also facilitates analysis that pairs historical considerations on the nature and development of the State together with current findings related to the effects of (political-economic) globalization-all while being attentive to the way that these historical and contemporary forces affect, operate through or are contested by education.
