| الملخص: | One of the most significant areas of inquiry into ancient Egypt, and until fairly recently one of the most neglected, is the nature of settlement in the Nile Valley and Delta. Although a tremendous amount of information has been acquired about ancient Egyptian society from the study of texts, monumental architecture, and cemeteries, the detailed study of Egyptian cities, towns, and villages has, for much of the history of Egyptian archaeology, not been a major part of scholarly research, with a few exceptions (e.g. Kahun, el-Amarna). Thus a major set of data with which to inform debate on the nature of ancient Egyptian society has remained virtually untapped. |
