The epigraphy and history of Boeotia : new finds, new prospects /
:
Over the past 20 years, Boeotia has been the focus of intensive archaeological investigation that has resulted in some extraordinary epigraphical finds. The most spectacular discoveries are presented for the first time in this volume: dozens of inscribed sherds from the Theban shrine of Heracles; Archaic temple accounts; numerous Classical, Hellenistic and Roman epitaphs; a Plataean casualty list; a dedication by the legendary king Croesus. Other essays revisit older epigraphical finds from Aulis, Chaironeia, Lebadeia, Thisbe, and Megara, radically reassessing their chronology and political and legal implications. The integration of old and new evidence allows for a thorough reconsideration of wider historical questions, such as ethnic identities, and the emergence, rise, dissolution, and resuscitation of the famous Boeotian koinon . Contributors include: Vassilios Aravantinos, Hans Beck, Margherita Bonanno, Claire Grenet, Yannis Kalliontzis, Denis Knoepfler, Angelos P. Matthaiou, Emily Mackil, Christel Müller, Nikolaos Papazarkadas, Isabelle Pernin, Robert Pitt, Adrian Robu, and Albert Schachter.

Territorial Investigations /
:
Nowadays there are many spaces of fascination in visual art. Of course, installative space and contextual space have been on the art scene for awhile. However, they are now accompanied by other spaces such as urban space, architectural space, cyberspace, hyperspace, and screen-based space. In this volume, architects, artists, theorists, three symposia and four exhibitions attempt to find answers to questions such as: Could the architectonic study and/or deconstruction of space play a decisive role in the shift of attention to space? Which theoretical factors structure the current experience and meaning of space? What is the role of the aesthetization of the environment on our concept of space? Smooth Space - VCC de Brakke Grond, Amsterdam - is a project at the heart of this publication. Spatial interests range from how the concept of space is redefined and exploited in our current visual culture to how the digital world influences our spatial concepts. Participants in this issue are: Jean Attali, Annette W. Balkema, Andrew Benjamin, Ole Bouman, Bernard Cache, Paul Crowther, Christoph Fink, Hugo Heyrman, Hou Hanru, Rem Koolhaas, Geert Lovink, Karlheinz Lüdeking, Bartomeu Mari, Kas Oosterhuis, Jan van de Pavert, Keiko Sato, Eran Schaerf, Lara Schnitger, Roger Scruton, Martin Seel, Nasrine Seraji, Henk Slager, Sjoerd Soeters, Lars Spuybroek, Ann Van Sevenant, Peter Weibel and Mark Wigley.

Time and Cosmology in Plato and the Platonic Tradition /
:
The way Plato discusses time and its relation to the cosmos has puzzled and divided his readers from the very beginning. This originated rich and diverse readings that shaped and contributed to the cosmological discussion of the Hellenistic and Late Antiquity periods. Modern scholars too, have offered many and often opposed views on the matter. This book assembles an international team of scholars to move forward the study of Plato's conception of time, to find fresh insights for interpreting his cosmology, and to reimagine the ancient Platonic tradition.

Elements de la terminologie du temps en egyptien ancien : une etude de semantique lexicale en diachronie /
:
This book has a double scope: first, bringing a contribution to the knowledge and understanding of the time conceptions in Ancient Egypt through a lexical study and, second, contributing to the definition of a methodological frame for lexical semantics in Ancient Egyptian.0In the introduction, the reader will first find a state of the art from the point of view of time-related studies in Egyptology, lexical semantics studies, and classifiers studies. The next introductory sections deal with the links between time, space and motion, with the complexity of time conceptions in Ancient Egypt, and with the impact of this plural vision on the lexicon.0The first part of the core study aims at establishing a proposition of canvas for the semasiology of nouns. It also presents the semasiological analysis of eight lexemes belonging to the unbounded time domain: #.t (moment), wnw.t (hour), nw (moment), tr (time), H#w (epoch), rk (epoch), oHow (lifetime) and Hnty (period).0The second part is dedicated to the onomasiology of the unbounded time domain, as well as some of its connections with some contiguous domains like space.

Jubilee in the Bible : using the theology of Jürgen Moltmann to find a new hermeneutic /
:
The biblical message of Jubilee is becoming more credible in our days in dealing with the socio-economic and moral-spiritual issues of today's world. It continues to exercise a powerful influence on the religious thoughts and actions of God's people. In addition to that, this book reveals a new hermeneutical code of reading and interpreting the message of Jubilee. The synthesis of the exegetical analysis of the biblical texts regarding the Jubilee and Sabbath/Sabbath year and Moltmann's understanding of this subject reveals the meaning and significance of the topic, how it is recognized, as well as its implications in today's world. This synthesis reveals a new vision and starting point for socio-economic and moral-spiritual reform in our time. "The biblical Sabbat / Jubilee-traditions are much richer than we thought. This book shows it. Theologically often neglected they are a source of new ideas to solve problems of human community and the ecology of the earth. That my theological works can be used to apply them today, is a surprise to me, a happy surprise." Jürgen Moltmann

"In Jesus' Name" : The History and Beliefs of Oneness Pentecostals /
:
"In Jesus' Name" tells the story of the third stream of Pentecostalism, which emerged during the formative years of the Pentecostal Revival. This is the first comprehensive study of the origins, history and theology of Oneness Pentecostalism, the heterodox movement expelled from the Assemblies of God in 1916 for its rejection of the doctrine of the Trinity and insistence on water baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Reed traces the movement, now estimated at 14 million worldwide, to its Pietist and Evangelical roots. Its distinctive doctrine is a radical trajectory of a christocentric reaction that had already begun in early Pentecostalism. Reed's study shows the inadequacy of the label of heresy in light of its thoroughgoing Pentecostal identity and theology of the Name of God. This title was granted the PNEUMA award for 2009.

Intentionality, desire, responsibility : a study in phenomenology, psychoanalysis and law /
:
Recently, the predominance of natural sciences seems to have cast doubt on the legitimacy of the human sciences. Adopting a phenomenological and hermeneutical point of view, this book is intended to contribute towards a justification of the human sciences, taking account of quintessentially human characteristics. The basic assumption is that man interprets his own experience and the world around him, yielding to the limitations imposed by language. Central themes are intentionality and causality, desire and lack, responsibility and loss of responsibility. Relevant domains are psychopathology and psychoanalysis-following Lacan's interpretation - and law. The rich phenomenological traditions in these domains will be drawn from throughout this book.

Metacide : in the pursuit of excellence /
:
If philosophy addresses concrete ethical challenges, then what shifts in basic concepts must be made to the discipline in the darkness of our genocidal world? What anti-genocidal strains are in Western philosophy? Are we "really" rejects and/ or "still of intrinsic worth" when we fail our excellence tests? How are we represented and how do we participate in representations? Are representational forms historical in origin and development? Is genocide indissolubly linked to our degradation and destruction of animals? Can one slaughter and eat one's partners in a social bond? If so, what does this tell us about the socio-political world we have formed? Is there a deep center-metacide-in our culture from which genocide receives its impulse? These are some of the pivotal questions addressed in the thirteen thought-provoking essays of this volume.

Monotheism and ethics : historical and contemporary intersections among Judaism, Christianity, and Islam /
:
The nexus between monotheism and ethics, especially in the forms professed by the three Abrahamic faiths, is the theme that binds together the studies in this volume. Fourteen leading academics from around the world discuss philosophical and theological connections, historical interactions, as well as responses to new and contemporary issues. Most, though not all of the essays, find a meaningful connection between monotheism and ethics; but none shy away from the problems involved.

The coinage of Herod Antipas : a study and die classification of the earliest coins of Galilee /
:
The Coinage of Herod Antipas provides a comprehensive, multifaceted and up-to-date re-examination of the coins of Herod Antipas, the tetrarch of Galilee and Peraea between 4/3 BCE and 39/40 CE. Kogon and Fontanille classify about 800 coins by obverse and reverse dies. From this die classification they generate, for the first time ever for this tetrarch, about 300 composite die images. In addition, the authors examine both technical aspects of the coins (e.g. metrology, mint output) and non-technical aspects (e.g. inscriptions, iconography). They also review the geographic distribution of provenanced coins. Through this analysis of the coins of Herod Antipas, Kogon and Fontanille provide a greater understanding of the Sitz im Leben of first century Galilee.

The economic integration of Roman Italy : rural communities in a globalizing world /
:
Over the past decades, archaeological field surveys and excavations have greatly enriched our knowledge of the Roman countryside Drawing on such new data, the volume The Economic Integration of Roman Italy , edited by Tymon de Haas and Gijs Tol, presents a series of papers that explore the changes Rome's territorial and economic expansion brought about in the countryside of the Italian peninsula. By drawing on a variety of source materials (e.g. pottery, settlement patterns, environmental data), they shed light on the complexity of rural settlement and economies on the local, regional and supra-regional scales. As such, the volume contributes to a re-assessment of Roman economic history in light of concepts such as globalisation, integration, economic performance and growth.

This exhaustive study traces Peter von Oertzen's transformation from a Berlin upbringing marked by Prussian traditions, conservative revolution, and National Socialism to his role as a Marxist and left-wing Social Democrat. It explores his dual impact as a political scientist and activist, detailing his influence in informal networks, journal projects, and trade union education initiatives. Navigating the SPD's delicate internal dynamics, Oertzen faced governmental responsibilities and conservative opposition while engaging in dialogue with various Marxist, council-socialist, and alternative left currents. Awarded the Niedersachsen State History Prize in 2018, this work offers unique insights into 20th-century left Social Democracy.
