Though qualitative research methods shape scholarship around the globe, and institutions worldwide offer qualitative coursework, there is very little explicit discussion on how to effectively teach qualitative research. Instead, a standard approach is for instructors to gain in-depth expertise in qualitative methodologies, with little or no pedagogical training. The effect is a continuous and nearly exclusive emphasis on content knowledge that undermines the preparation of novice researchers as both teachers and learners. This book works to fill that gap by offering perspectives, strategies, and applications from instructor and student perspectives, based on a semester-long class emphasizing social justice in qualitative research. Fragments of Languages : From 'Restsprachen' to Contemporary Endangered Languages /

The book deals with the concept of fragmentation as applied to languages and their documentation. It focuses in particular on the theoretical and methodological consequences of such a fragmentation for the linguistic analysis and interpretation of texts and, hence, for the reconstruction of languages. Furthermore, by adopting an innovative perspective, the book aims to test the application of the concept of fragmentation to languages which are not commonly included in the categories of 'Corpussprache', 'Trümmersprache', and 'Restsprache'. This is the case with diachronic or diatopic varieties - of even well-known languages - which are only attested through a limited corpus of texts as well as with endangered languages. In this latter case, not only is the documentation fragmented, but the very linguistic competence of the speakers, due to the reduction of contexts of language use, interference phenomena with majority languages, and consequent presence of semi-speakers. The language environment of first century Judaea /

The articles in this collection demonstrate that a change is taking place in New Testament studies. Throughout the twentieth century, New Testament scholarship primarily worked under the assumption that only two languages, Aramaic and Greek, were in common use in the land of Israel in the first century. The current contributors investigate various areas where increasing linguistic data and changing perspectives have moved Hebrew out of a restricted, marginal status within first-century language use and the impact on New Testament studies. Five articles relate to the general sociolinguistic situation in the land of Israel during the first century, while three articles present literary studies that interact with the language background. The final three contributions demonstrate the impact this new understanding has on the reading of Gospel texts.

This book examines early modern Jerusalem's waqf system through an Ottoman provincial lens, analyzing how diverse social groups engaged with these endowments in judicial contexts. Conceptualizing waqf s-central to the city's socioeconomic fabric and urban identity-as an interconnected " waqf network", the research demonstrates the commodification of waqf offices among elites, and their enduring control over pious foundations. These processes reveal how provincial power structures mediated between imperial standards and local interests. Focusing on notable families who monopolized waqf -related privileges, the work reconstructs Jerusalemite society through multiple frameworks: imperial waqf policies, social hierarchies, notable-commoner relations, and intercommunal dynamics-positioning endowments as both economic assets and instruments of governance. This book examines secessionist entities that arose during and after the dissolution process of the USSR and considers them as legal subjects in their own right. By employing a novel and more innovative approach, the agency of these subjects, otherwise often ignored or disregarded, is taken into account. Drawing on the cases of the South Caucasus, the author suggests going beyond the binary concept of statehood and traditional notions of sovereignty. He advocates embracing an inclusive reading of international law, which enables to foster creative ambiguity vis-à-vis these entities as means of conflict transformation.
